وفي ظلّ صدمة كبرى لجمهور يونايتد، خطف كوفنتري هدف التعادل في الدقيقة 90+5 بواسطة الأميركي حاجي رايت من ركلة جزاء.
واستمر التعادل 3-3 في الوقت الإضافي، ليحتكم الفريقان إلى ركلات الترجيح، التي أسعفت يونايتد بعدما أضاع كوفنتري ركلتين.
ويواجه يونايتد جاره مانشستر سيتي في نهائي كأس الاتحاد في 25 مايو المقبل.
