أعلنت وزارة الخارجية التابعة لحركة طالبان، الجمعة 19 سبتمبر 2025، عن إطلاق سراح الزوجين البريطانيين بيتر وباربرا رينولدز (80 و76 عامًا) بعد احتجازهما في أفغانستان لما يقارب ثمانية أشهر.
وأوضح المتحدث باسم الوزارة، عبد القهار بلخي، أن الإفراج جاء “عقب إجراء قضائي” دون أي اعتبارات سياسية، مؤكدًا أن القضايا المتعلقة بالمواطنين الأجانب تُعالج وفق القانون الأفغاني.
وأشار بلخي إلى أن دولة قطر لعبت دور الوسيط في عملية الإفراج، حيث تم تسليم الزوجين إلى المبعوث البريطاني الخاص ريتشارد ليندسي.
من جهته، أكد مسؤول قطري أن الدوحة قادت وساطة دامت عدة أشهر بالتنسيق مع الحكومة البريطانية وعائلة الزوجين، حتى تم التوصل إلى إطلاق سراحهما “بسلام”.
يُذكر أن الزوجين البريطانيين، اللذين عاشا في أفغانستان منذ سبعينيات القرن الماضي، حصلا على الجنسية الأفغانية وكانا يديران جمعية تعليمية في البلاد. وقد تم توقيفهما في فبراير الماضي بولاية باميان وسط أفغانستان، من دون أن تكشف طالبان عن سبب الاحتجاز.
