باتت فرص تثبيت تود بلانش في منصب وزير العدل الأمريكي موضع شك، بعدما لوّح أعضاء جمهوريون في مجلس الشيوخ بحجب أصواتهم ما لم تقدم وزارة العدل ضمانات رسمية بإلغاء صندوق مالي أثار جدلا واسعا داخل الكونغرس.
وقال السيناتور الجمهوري جون كورنين إن وزارة العدل لم تقدم أي رد خلال الساعات الأخيرة بشأن مطلبه، إلى جانب السيناتور توم تيليس، بإلغاء ما يعرف بـ”صندوق مكافحة تسييس العدالة” قبل التصويت على ترشيح بلانش داخل اللجنة القضائية في مجلس الشيوخ.
وأضاف كورنين أن الوزارة “تعرف تماما ما المطلوب منها، لكنها لا ترغب في القيام بذلك”، في إشارة إلى استمرار الخلاف بين الطرفين قبل التصويت المقرر داخل اللجنة.
تصويت مهدد بالتأجيل
ومن المقرر أن تصوت اللجنة القضائية في مجلس الشيوخ على إحالة ترشيح بلانش إلى الجلسة العامة، إلا أن غياب دعم كورنين وتيليس قد يؤدي إلى إسقاط الترشيح أو تأجيل التصويت حتى التوصل إلى تسوية.
ولم يستبعد كورنين تأجيل التصويت، مؤكدا أن هذا الخيار مطروح للنقاش إذا استمرت الأزمة دون حل، رغم أنه لم يناقش الأمر بعد مع رئيس اللجنة، السيناتور تشاك غراسلي.
صندوق يثير انقساما داخل واشنطن
وكان بلانش قد أكد خلال جلسة استماع عقدت في وقت سابق من الشهر الجاري أن “صندوق مكافحة تسييس العدالة انتهى”، مشددا على أن المشروع لم يعد قائما، وأن الاتفاق المتبقي مع الجهات الضريبية لا يمنح أي حماية للرئيس دونالد ترمب من التحقيقات الجنائية التي قد تجريها وكالات فيدرالية أخرى.
ورغم تلك التصريحات، طالب السيناتوران الجمهوريان بضمانات مكتوبة تتضمن تعديلا رسميا على اتفاق التسوية، معتبرين أن التصريحات الشفوية لا تكفي لإنهاء الجدل.
ويبلغ حجم الصندوق نحو 1.8 مليار دولار، وكان قد خُصص لتعويض أشخاص يقولون إنهم تعرضوا لملاحقات أو إجراءات غير عادلة من وزارة العدل، بمن فيهم بعض المتهمين في أحداث اقتحام مبنى الكابيتول في السادس من يناير/كانون الثاني 2021.
خلاف داخل الحزب الجمهوري
وأثار المشروع منذ الإعلان عنه انتقادات واسعة، إذ اعتبره معارضون وسيلة قد تسمح باستخدام أموال دافعي الضرائب لمنح تعويضات لمؤيدين للرئيس، وهو ما زاد من الانقسامات داخل الحزب الجمهوري نفسه.
كما ساهمت تصريحات ترمب، الذي لم يعلن صراحة التخلي عن الصندوق، في تعقيد المفاوضات بين البيت الأبيض والكونغرس، رغم تأكيدات وزارة العدل بأن المشروع أُلغي.
وتبقى الأيام المقبلة حاسمة بالنسبة لمصير ترشيح بلانش، في ظل استمرار الضغوط داخل مجلس الشيوخ للحصول على التزامات قانونية واضحة قبل المضي في إجراءات تثبيته على رأس وزارة العدل.
